Gone are the days when ponytails were reserved for schoolgirls and athletes alone, the ponytail has come back with a stylish vengeance both on the runway and the red carpet. Now don’t go running for your scrunchies as (hopefully) those will stay retired forever, this season’s tail has a number of permutations suitable for women of all age groups
.
If you’re worried about a ponytail making you look childish are unsophisticated, take a cue from Louis Vuitton (below left), Marc Jacobs (above), Todd Lynn or Ungaro (below right) and opt for a sleek high ponytail with a dominatrix feel. Paired with a wide legged pant or little black dress, it can take your look from standard to sensational. If you’re feeling especially outrageous, crimp or tease the tail of your ponytail as we saw at Gucci.
For those downtown women who scoff at the thought of having their hair sleek and controlled, opt for a low-slung and slightly unhinged ponytail, as seen at Burberry, Prada (below left) and Alexander Wang (below right). Tease around the crown of your head to give volume and secure it with a barrette, another big trend thanks to Rodarte’s incredible film featuring Elle Fanning, or wrap a piece of your hair around and pin it underneath.
